Hybrid forms.

You will be giving mini-presentations on the glorious hybrids you have found. These might be images that have been recoloured, or montages/mashups – or they might deal with images distributed via an app you use. Or they might be an application of some kind – or a film. Think about:

  1. The motivation behind the hybrid
  2. The narrative or message of the image/form/application
  3. Is it art/journalism/entertainment?
  4. Is it useful?
  5. Who made it?

A photographer who produces hybrids is Ben Heine. Since discovering his work, I have always been fascinated by his Pencil VS Camera images. These consist of Ben choosing a location, making a drawing and then photographing the place. He then puts these together, with the intention of contrasting ‘imagination and realisation through illusion and surrealism’. Ben produced his first image in April 2010 and is still producing more creative and impressive hybrids today. These hybrids represent both art and entertainment whilst the drawings he puts in the images show the extent of his imaginativeness which invites the viewer to enjoy and explore ideas. He commented “I just make art for people. I want them to dream and forget their daily troubles. I used to write poems many years ago, I want to convey a poetic and philosophical meaning into my pictures, each new creation should tell a story and generate an intense emotion, like a poem, like a melody”.
