Jason Scott Tilley – The Beautiful People Project.

  • From Coventry.
  • Grandfather interested in photography.
  • Took his first dark room course at the age of 14.
  • Sent out to cover news stories after taking the opportunity to ask a reporter.
  • Back to school at 20 to get an English O-Level.
  • Likes producing own material.
  • James’ Grandfather – Bert Scott, Bangalore, 1915. Studied photography, photographed Ghandi, became an army officer. Had to leave his life and belongings behind, helped smuggle others across the border. One who later saved his life.
  • ‘Back to Bangalor’ 1999.
  • Worked with Channel 4 to create a documentary.
  • Returned to India with Grandfather in order to revisit his childhood memories, his grandparents grave. Jason was able to photograph his Grandfather photographing.

  • Inspired by Richard Billingham, Corrine Day, August Sanders, Irving Penn.
  • Creating prints are his favourite.
  • Spent 3 years in India photographing the extreme contrasts of people.
  • Working on a new project exploring transgenders, telling their stories. Looking into prostitution and the risk of AIDs.
  • Appropriate funding.
