Lighting Diagrams.

Firstly, we were introduced to the use of lighting diagrams.

  • Corporate work, big spaces to illuminate – Dean Collins.
  • “The Corporate Ladder”.
  • Unusual perspective.
  • Had to protect a lot of areas to reduce reflection.
  • Architectural shot along with a portrait.
  • Shutter speed to control the brightness of the sky.
  • Light from behind, below and from the front/right.
  • Record everything you do.
  • Practice.
  • Share lighting diagrams. (This is not stealing your style, will help build up knowledge.)
  • Lighting diagram creator.
  • www.lightingdiagrams.com > launch the diagram creator.
  • If you have no access to this, make good diagrams and sketches, use phone and make a lighting diagram from these sketches, accurate as possible.
  • Left, lighting objects.
  • Clear the diagram for a blank space to work with.
  • Always start off with a background. Click and drag to the appropriate place.
  • Put in the subject. Introduce the camera.
  • Add the light source. Can add light modifiers later.
  • Export to PNG. Loses quality in JPEG.
  • Put into photoshop later to add extra detail eg. Aperture, shutter speed,  ISO, camera used, lens.
  • Add light settings.
  • Add distances in order to recreate. Take into account the distances between subject and background, camera from subject and lights to subject.
  • Whenever you have made a diagram of an image you have made, pair them together in order to see what the lighting looks like.
